Professor in Pediatrics and Child Health, Dept of Pediatrics, ICaR institute for Cardiovascular Research and EMGO Institute for Health and Care Research, VUmc University Hospital Amsterdam. Principal Investigator Epidemiology and late effects of congenital and early acquired diseases, particularly early nutrition and growth as determinants of cardiometabolic function in later life. In the last 5 years focus has been on the Amsterdam Born Children and their Development study, a population based multi-ethnic birth cohort in which cardiovascular health of mothers and their offspring are evaluated. This has resulted in 6 PhD thesis and many publications. The editorial board of the American Hearth Association top-journal “Hypertension” awarded our paper “Explaining Socioeconomic Inequalities in Childhood Blood Pressure and Prehypertension: The ABCD Study” as the best publication in 2013 paper in the category population science.
