Rebecca Painter, MD, PhD

Gynaecologist fetal maternal medicine
AMC Amsterdam

Currently employed as a fetal maternal medicine gynaecologist at the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics , Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam. Dr Painter’s clinical interests include obesity and diabetes in pregnancy. Her PhD (2006) demonstrated that famine exposure in the womb led to increased risk of cardiovascular and metabolic disease in later life. Subsequently, she has translated this knowledge into clinical practice, investigating whether women with excessive vomiting and weight loss can benefit from tube feeding, which determinants drive participation in Ramadan participation in pregnancy, and quantifying the effects for the offspring. In collaboration with the University of Brussels (VUB) she has followed the oldest ICSI cohort in the world, demonstrating that ICSI conception is linked to altered fat distribution and blood pressure.
